Music Department Educational Objectives
In the Bellevue Elementary Schools:
1. Students will sing. 2. Students will play instruments. 3. Students will read music. (In Kindergarten, the students are required to describe music, e.g. fast/slow, high/low, and loud/soft.)
The preparation for the Educational Objectives (EO's) is completed during music class. Whenever possible, the teacher will provide study guides to help the students reinforce concepts at home. This is especially critical for students in the fourth and fifth grades because the curriculum includes playing the soprano recorder.
Each grade will be responsible for reading four-beat rhythms and melodic patterns. Each student will receive a rhythmic practice sheet to prepare for the rhythm reading assessment. If you are concerned about your child's preparation of these activities, please contact me.
In order to practice note reading for grades 4 and 5, here is a link to a complete grand staff. You can also find note reading practice on the Recorder page under Recorder Links. Click on "Interactive Recorder Fingering Chart" and/or "Piggies Music Lessons."
